Lie #1: The best replica watches are made in Switzerland, followed closely by Italy.

Lie #3: The movements in "Swiss made" replicas are identical to the genuine watch movements. 27 jewel movements are the best.

-- (See Lie #1 for "Swiss made".) Far from the truth. Very few replica watch movements come from anywhere but China and any watchman can immediately tell it's not genuine. There are no 27 jewels movements in replica watches; only 25, 21, or 17.

Lie #4: The best replicas are 99% true to the genuine and will even fool an Authorized Dealer (AD).

Q1. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING I NEED TO DO UPON RECEIVING THE WATCH?

A2. If your watch is a quartz version, it means that the battery has been used up. Please change the battery.

If it is an automatic watch, it is running on stored energy. It gains energy from human hand kinetic movement. When you do not wear it and it runs out of stored energy, it will stop. To make it tick again, you have to wind it for 10 - 12 rounds by turning the crown clockwise. To re-adjust the Day or Date back correctly, it depends on whether the crown is the one adjusting or it is recessed or button pusher. You can then adjust accordingly. For the crown, pull it out lightly once to adjust Date/Day (Most watches are like that). If you pull out the crown out twice, it will adjust Time. If it is a screw in crown, unscrew the crown anti-clockwise and follow the same instructions to adjust Date/Day and Time.

Q3. HOW DO I SET THE TIME?

A3. To set time, you need to unscrew crown anti-clockwise direction if you have a screw-in crown watch. You need to softly and slowly pull the crown out a little bit. The best way to do this is to use first and second finger and use finger knuckle as a lever in order to pull the crown out with as little force as possible. You can feel a little click! Now you can set the time by turning it anti-clockwise. This would turn the minute-hour hands forward until you set the right time. When time is set, push the button back and screw the crown clockwise for a few rounds to ensure it is screwed back tight.

Q4. HOW DO I SET THE GMT & LOCAL TIME?

A4. GMT means Dual Time Zone and it usually use a 24-hour clock instead of a 12-hour clock we normally use. GMT can be set with two time zones. A local minute-hour hand time and a GMT (sometimes red) arrow second time zone.

To adjust time, please follow the instructions below:

1. Unwind the crown anti-clockwise softly and slowly until it loosen up. There are two steps of pulling out the button stem. Do not exert too much force here and please make sure you do it lightly and carefully.

2. STEP ONE is for setting the GMT second time zone. STEP TWO is for setting the local time. Pull one-step out is to set GMT and date by winding the button clockwise and anticlockwise respectively. Pull one more step is for setting local time. Pushing the crown inward one step will bring it back to GMT setting. Pushing it two steps will bring it back to normal position and you can wind it back clockwise while pushing it back softly to secure the crown onto the watchcase.

3. Set local time FIRST and then GMT SECOND time zone. When you set local time, GMT time will also be changed at the same time

Q5. I HAVE A QUARTZ VERSION (BATTERY OPERATED) WATCH, WHEN DO I NEED TO CHANGE THE BATTERY?

A5. A new battery will normally last for two years. Depending on time of the last replacement, you would probably need to change battery within two years.

Q6. I HAVE A WATCH WITH DATE, HOW DO I CHANGE THE DATE?

A6. To change date and time you need to do the following. If you have a screw-in crown like a Rolex, you need to turn the crown anti-clockwise for a few rounds until the crown is loose. Then you need to pull the crown out softly by using your thumb’s nail and first finger’s nail. Please do this softly to avoid breaking the stem. You should feel a click here. There are two steps when you pull the crown out. The first step is for setting the date (and Day if you have a Rolex Day-Date). The second step is for setting the local time (see Q2 and A2 for details). You can only set Date forward by turning the crown in one direction. When you are done with setting date and time, push back the crown and wind it clockwise for a few times to lock it.

Q7. WHAT IS SCREW-IN CROWN? HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS?

A7. A Screw-in crown will lock into the case of the watch when you turn the crown clockwise toward the watch case. It will tighten when it is screwed tight. Most Rolex watches use Screw-in crown. When you want to wind your watch, you have to un-lock the crown by turning the button anti-clockwise until you see the crown comes out of the watch a little bit, about 1.0 to 1.5 mm. Do not force the crown to come out cause it will easily break the stem link with the watch. When the crown comes out, you can then wind it, adjust time, date, day just like other watches. To lock it, slowly turn it and push it toward the watch until it is locked tight. NO need to apply extra force after it is tight! For most other non screw-in crown watches, you just wind it, adjust time, date, day without the need to un-screw the crown.

Q8. WHAT IS A RECESSED PUSHER? HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM THE PUSHER BUTTONS THAT ARE NOT RECESSED?

A8. Recessed pushers are button that are designed in a way that the button is inside the watch body, mostly for appearance purpose. Many times, there are too many push buttons on the watch already and making recessed pushers will help to save space and makes it more desirable in looks. Usually, recessed pushers are for setting date, year or day, etc. Use a ball-point pen to push the recessed pusher all-the-way and release fully will make it change accordingly. Repeat the process until you set the right information. Do not push half way or release half way, it will sometimes cause the gear to change half way and make it show the wrong information and it might damage other mechanical parts in the watch’s movement.

Q9. I HAVE A ROLEX DAYTONA WITH VALJOUX 7750B1 MOVEMENT WITH FUNCTIONAL CHRONOS, HOW DO I USE THE STOPWATCH FUNCTION?

A9. The Daytona has chronograph buttons, which has a protective-screw lock for protection. This is a unique feature for Rolex Daytona. When you need to push the button, you need to un-wind the protective-screw to the level of the inside button, then you can push the button and press the button. Be sure to push it all the way and fully release it when pushing. Pushing halfway may cause it to stop half way and cause mechanical problems.

Q10. WHAT IS A TACHYMETER AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

A10. It is a scale on the dial. In fact, many sports version watches have it either on the rim or bezel. In conjunction with the second hand, it gives the speed of a moving object. A tachymeter takes a value determined in less than a minute and converts it into miles per hour. For example, a wearer could measure the time it takes a car to pass between mile markers on the highway. When the car passes the second marker, the second hand will be pointing to the cars speed in miles per hour on the tachymetric scale.

Q11. HOW DO I USE THE STOPWATCH FUNCTION ON VALJOUX 7750B1 MOVEMENT TO AVOID DAMAGE TO IT?

A11. To avoid damaging the delicate mechanisms of the Valjoux 7750b1 movement you need to follow the instructions listed below to take care of it:

If your Valjoux 7750b1 has DATE function, DO NOT ADJUST the date when your time is between 10:00 to 3:00. It will damage the internal gears unknowingly if you do that. The BEST WAY is to manually adjust the time to 6:00 and then adjust the DATE after that.

If you are using the chronograph functions of the Valjoux 7750b1, always make sure that to start the stopwatch, you depress the pusher button on top and also to STOP the stopwatch, depress the same pusher button.

When you receive your piece, please remember to handwind the piece for about maybe 50 rounds, so to generate enough power reserve. Then you shake the piece like a mad cow for 3-4 minutes to generate more power reserve (If necessary)

Then pull the crown out to adjust the hour hand manually to determine when is am/pm. See the date change - then you will know when is am/ pm. Make sure you know when is am/ pm before you proceed

Make sure you do not adjust the date between 10pm-2am ever!!! Do not ask me why because it just works this way. if you adjust between 10pm-2am, the date will jam or go half way.

After u have confirmed the am/ pm…..u can adjust the crown to get to the desired date you want.

As for the timer hand to reset back to zero, it is pure luck….u may have perfect reset, or less than perfect reset. My Genuine Rolex Daytona did not reset back to zero after 3 months. By the way, make sure everytime you activate chrono, you have enough power reserve. Have fun!!!

Please make sure you measure your wrist properly so the watch will be a perfect fit upon its arrival to you. This is important because you don’t want the watch to feel tight on you and you don’t want it to move around your wrist either, as it will scratch your crystal and bezel. Also, please don’t measure your other watches to determine your wrist size.

To properly determine how to calculate the perfect measurement of the watch for you, all you will need is: tape measure OR a ruler and a piece of thread.

Encircle a tape measurer around your wrist until it’s almost snug on you. That is, you should see no room when the measurer is around your wrist. Just like in this photo, write down how many inches the measurer illustrates. This is your wrist circumference.
Now that you have that value, add half an inch to it. As a result, the measurer should slightly be able to move around your wrist. (Ex. 5½ inches plus ½ inch = 6 inches. Therefore, the watch should be sized to 6 inches.)

When you receive your watch, it should not be loose and the watch should not move around your wrist. It should stay in place with the head of the watch faced toward the center.

Different Band Types and How to Adjust Them...

Having purchased your new or used watch you find that the band wants adjusting:

There is some sort of adjustment available in the clasp in the case of a band, and this is through a pin that's spring-loaded, locking into the clasp's holes. Typically no problem to try this adjustment using a tool thin enough to press the pin from the outside and therefore release it. Careful! These tiny pins may fly across a room and could go missing. Before attempting this adjustment, make sure that the watch is on a material in order not to scrape the case or dent the crown.

Finding a comfortable position is easy because there are multiple holes on the straps. If not you can always make a new hole using a button hole stitching tool.

Wait, the band's links might wish to be removed.

Some bracelets use push pins and others used screws for attaching links to each other. If you don't have the tools to do that ( like watchmakers' screwdrivers or bracelet pin removal tools ) then generally it is best left to a watchmaker. If you have the correct screwdriver, make efforts to strongly hold the bracelet before unscrewing the screw, preferably with a specialist bracelet holder. Having said that , it is critical that the screwdriver, except for being the proper size is also of the right thickness - otherwise you can finish up with a broken screw slot.

Push pins, well firstly there are generally little arrows on the underside of the links indicating which way the pin should be pushed out - obvious maybe but worth discussing; some pins are of the split type pure and simple, these are typically found on lower-mid range watches. Again, if you can secure the band and have an instrument that will fit the pin hole right, you can do it yourself. Light drumming of the tool is often enough to get rid of the split pin type. The links are then inserted and the pins replaced from the opposite end to removal - very carefully! It's better to seek a pro watchmaker if you're not comfortable doing this.

You will have more issues with solid-type pins because these have special collars which should be in the right place on the band. The fit is intensely tight, and I recommend that you let a watchmaker do this. Better to be safe than sorry!

Winding your timepiece....

My watch is a manual, how do I wind it up?

If you've a manual wind watch, then attempt to wind it at the same time each day, it's probably best wound in the morning as you'll have optimum power throughout the day, possibly therefore more consistent timekeeping. Wind it slowly and consistently; you'll feel the mainspring tighten when it is completely wound. This is a nice thing. Don't force it further as this will damage the escapement's parts and the mainspring itself.

Remember this. It's sensible to take the watch off when winding a manual wind watch. Why is this? It's possible that you can put nonessential load on the winding stem if you keep the watch on. I have seen people wind their watch by forcing a finger under the crown and then winding by a forward and back ward motion of the said finger! This isn't a good idea.

My watch is an automated, does it need winding?

If it died, then it does. Some cheaper automatics do not have a manual winding capacity; in such cases you must swing the watch gently in an arc for a minute or so to get the watch running. For those with a manual wind capacity, you have to put the movement in a perfect state of wind to start with by giving the watch roughly 35 to forty light turns. Normal arm movement should then be adequate to keep the watch wound for a bit. If you are fairly active, then it should be OK to leave the watch off overnight without any further manual winding.

Setting your timepiece...

Date and time setting?

OK, well firstly a watch equipped with a date feature will usually have 3 positions for the crown: in, pulled out one click ( for date setting ) and pulled out two clicks (for time setting). It's totally simple. 2 main tips here truly. Firstly, when setting the time wind the hands slowly if possible, don't go overboard in the velocity dept - the easy reason for this is that doing so really quickly could cause early wear to the elements on that the hands ride. Relatively slowly and delicately is fine and ideally in a clockwise direction. Can i get my watch wet?

How wet you can get your watch depends on how wet the watch was made to get! Generally, splashes are okay for a WR30m watch, light swimming without prolonged immersion for WR50m, swimming for a WR100m watch, and diving for WR200m. Try and avoid dunking even a depth rated watch in hot water, like in the bath or shower; the heat can distort seals and soapy detergents can injure your watch. Rapid contraction occurs in quick hot to cold changes like that, and the seal could have slid from the heat, which can lead to damage. Also, moisture will remain in the watch because of the air within, and rapid cooling will make it condense and it might stain the crystal.

If you live in a hot area of the Earth, heat can not be avoided. However, if at all possible, avoid leaving / wearing the watch in direct robust daylight; firstly the watch is going to get extraordinarily hot which won't do the lubricants much good; second, direct daylight like that can prematurely age dials and cause dial lacquers to lift or micro bubble. This isn't to assert that your watch should be kept under shirt sleeves whenever the sun is out! It's merely a case of trying not to fry your watch or yourself.

Shockproof?

It could be, but it is best not to purposely test its ability; although mechanical watches are fitted with shock-absorbers, it's still best not to reveal them to vibration, unexpected shocks, and dropping. Mechanical watches are pretty tricky but there is a limit; exposing the watch to serious shock can at the least affect timekeeping and at worst will cause mechanical failure.

Most watches are antimagnetic to some degree; that is to claim that they'll stand exposure to limited magnetic fields without timekeeping being negatively affected. However, it's just expert watches which have been built to bear high magnetic fields that should be exposed to such. We should avoid this with our everyday automated. First, remember that there are masses of metal inside mechanical watches, and each element engage with the others. If these or the even more fragile elements become magnetized, then the watch at best will run very erratically or at worst will stop altogether. This isn't something the general public have to stress about.

IWC president Georges Kern has always been able to make a big splash when launching a new watch. But flying out for a trap landing on a nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, with a catapult launch to return to shore, is more than a big splash–it's the equivalent of a tidal wave.

The gearing-up prior to flying out to the aircraft carrier set the tone for what is anything but your usual commuter trip. Pre-flight, life vests are donned, "Cranial" helmets with integrated ear protection are secured in place and assurances are given during the pre-flight briefing that the occasional drips of liquid falling from the various systems inside the plane are par for the course on board these "COD" (carrier on-board delivery) transport planes.

We are told, "not to worry about it."

Equipment secured, press members briefed, it's time to go flying.

The flight out is actually pretty mundane. Once the two propeller engines go to full power, the takeoff is so subtle and smooth I could not even tell we had left the ground. While there are only a couple of windows on-board, when strapped in properly (facing aft) it is near impossible for any passenger in the rear compartment to see out of them.

Landing

In our pre-flight briefing, the press and IWC staff are told that two Navy personnel at the very aft of the cabin would wave their hands to signal when we are on the final approach, to prepare for our first "trap" landing. The landing itself is an amazing experience, the antithesis to the remarkably smooth takeoff.

In the landing, you feel the sudden impact with the deck as the tailhook (hopefully) catches one of three arresting cables strung across the deck, followed by about two seconds of what feels like
someone standing on your chest. Then there's a sudden release of the pressure on your torso as the plane goes from 100-plus knots per hour to zero in no time. We found ourselves safely on-board the most awesome piece of military equipment on earth.

As the rear clamshell-type hatch opens and makes a ramp for the passengers to debark, we step into an active and dangerous environment: the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan - CVN-76.

Once clear of the COD transport, we hear the deafening roar of an FA-18's twin jet engines—even through two sets of ear protection. They welcome you on board with the sound and heat of the engines at full power.
